近年来，开利一直加大在中国的投资，不断扩大市场地位。2004年10月，开利投资1500万美元在中国***的合资企业上海一冷开利空调设备有限公司设立了全球压缩机中心。2005年4月底，开利在上海浦东举行了开利全球研发中心的奠基仪式，从而使开利在中国的投资达到1.75亿美元。该中心在2008年全面投入使用。包括该中心在内，开利公司计划今后几年内在中国的研发投入达到5000万美元。

Since Dr. Willis Carrier invented the world's first scientific air conditioning system in 1902, Carrier has always stayed at the forefront of the air-conditioning industry for more than 100 years. Regarded as the leader and expert in air conditioning, Carrier has 18 R&D centers worldwide with several thousand patents in the air-conditioning industry. Carrier's products are manufactured in 73 facilities on six continents with 45,000 employees around the world. In 2008, Carrier's sales were US$14.9 billion, leading the Heating, Ventilation, Air conditioning and Refrigeration（HVACR）industry.

Carrier set up its first joint venture in Shanghai in 1987, and now Carrier has 13 operations in China with approximately 2,500 employees. Carrier's products are distributed in China through a network of more than 40 sales offices.

With nearly two decades of experience in China, Carrier is an undisputed leader in the central air-conditioning markets. Carrier has cooled many prestigious landmark buildings in China, including the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, the Oriental Pearl Television Tower and Pudong Jinmao Tower in Shanghai, the Olympic Stadium in Guangzhou, and Shaanxi History Museum in Xi'an.

In recent years Carrier has substantially increased the investment in China to expand its presence in the local market. In 2004, Carrier opened a US$15 million compressor center in Yileng Factory, which is Carrier's largest joint venture in China. In April 2005, Carrier held a groundbreaking ceremony for its global research and development (R&D) center in Shanghai's Pudong area. Carrier has projected that it intends to spend an additional US$50 million in China during the next few years on R&D, including this center.
